How to Cook Basmati Rice - Rice by Draining Method


 I never thought that i will share a post for cooking rice, even though i have a post for cooking rice for biryani. But oneday when i was making fried rice, i happened to take some pictures of the rice which i made for that. I loved the picture a lot, i just want to share a post using that picture. And also i got mails from viewers asking me how i cook my rice for fried rice. So i thought this post will be useful.


The key point you have to remember when cooking basmati rice by draining method is, you have to always stand near it and also keep on tasting the rice, so you never end up in mushy sticky rice.


Preparation Time : 5 mins
Soaking Time : 1 hour
Cooking Time : 5 to 10 mins

Ingredients:

Basmati Rice - 1 cup
Water - 7 cups
Salt - 2 tsp

Method:

Wash and soak basmati rice for 1 hour. Drain and set aside.

Heat water in a sauce pan, bring it to a good boil.

Add in salt. Add in the drained rice and boil it for 5 to 7 mins.

Drain and cover with a plate. Let it sit for 10 to 15 mins.

Use accordingly.

Tips for cooking rice for different recipes:

1)For cooking biryani, taste the rice, the rice will have a little bite to it. Then it suits for biryani, because when u put the rice on dum, it will continue cooking further.You dont need to cover the rice with a plate after draining for making biryani. 

2)For cooking fried rice : Cook the rice till it is cooked and soft. But not mushy. Because when u toss the rice, it should stay whole.And covering the rice after draining is must, because it will make the rice fluffy and cooks to perfection.

3)For Enjoying with curry: The rice should be cooked completely . And covering the rice after draining is must, because it will make the rice fluffy and cooks to perfection.

Wash and soak basmati rice for 1 hour

mix well

cook it on high heat..

after 3 mins it will look like this

now keep on cooking

the rice will elongate
If you want for biryani, drain when the rice has little bite to it,
If you want to cook for fried rice, cook for 1 more min..
I made this for having it with curry, so cooked it a bit more..

remove from heat

drain it

i covered it with a plate

now the rice is perfect and fluffy..You can eat it now..
