I love love love chole masala..I had quite a few variations of this curry in my blog..You can check out my simple chana masala

This curry is best served with bhature or rotis. This recipe is quite simple, because it dont have onions, tomatoes in them. Just some plain spices which makes it really special and tasty..You have to try this out and let me know how it turned out for you..
Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cookiing Time : 40 mins + 20 mins
Serves : 5 to 6
Ingredients:
Chana / Kabuli Chana / Chickpeas - 2 cups dried
Oil - 2 tblspn
Shahi Jeera or Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Bay Leaf - 1
Cinnamon Stick / Pattai - 1 inch piece
Garlic paste - 1 tblspn
Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi - 1 tblspn
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
Cumin Powder / Jeera Podi - 1 tsp
Amchoor Powder / Dry Mango Powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Sugar - 1 tsp
Kasuri Methi leaves / Dried Fenugreek Leaves - 1 tsp
Coriander Leaves - 3 tblspn finely chopped
Lemon Juice - 1 tsp
Method:
Soak chana overnight in lots of water. Add it to pressure cooker, cover it with water, bring it to boil. Cook it for 4 whistle, simmer it for 15 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and check whether the chana is cooked.
Now heat oil in a pot. Add in cumin, cinnamon and bay leaf. Saute it for a min.
Add in all the spice powders and saute for a min.
Add in cooked chana along with cooked water, mix well. Season with salt and sugar.
Take cooked chana in a blender and puree it. Add it to the curry. Mix well.
Bring it to boil, simmer it for 15 mins.
Now add in chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice. Mix well.
Serve with roti and bhature.

cover and simmer |
till oil floats on top |
sprinkle over some kasuri methi leaves |
mix well |
add in chopped coriander leaves |
squeeze in some lemon juice |
mix well |
serve |
