I know, I know..This post has to be posted before ganesh chaturthi but sorry, i made this on ganesh chaturthi, so i didn't get time to share it before that. This post has been sitting in my draft for so long, so i decided to share it before i forget the measurements. And it doesn't mean that kozhukattai's has to be made and consumed only on ganesh chaturthi..

This is so easy to make, and it can be made either for breakfast or after school snack for kids..I hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out..
Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 25 to 30 mins
Makes : 20 to 25 Kozhukattai
Ingredients:
Homemade Rice Flour - 1 cup (You can use store bought too)
Water - 2 cup
Fresh Coconut - 1/2 cup grated
Salt to taste
For Seasoning:
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
Split Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tblspn
Dry Red Chilli - 3 cut into small pieces
Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - a sprig
Method:
Heat oil in a pan, add in all the seasoning ingredients and saute for a min.
Add in water, salt and coconut. Bring it to a boil.
Once it boils, simmer and add in rice flour slowly and mix well so no lumps are formed.
Now keep this cooking till it leaves the sides and comes together.
Remove this mix to a bowl and let it cool so you can handle.
Once it is cool knead once so it is smooth.
Grease your hands slightly with some oil and take small portion from it and press slightly.
Now repeat the same with the remaining dough.
Place it in a steamer and steam it for 8 to 10 mins.
Remove it and allow it to cool slightly before serving.

now season the water really well..Because once you add the rice flour, then the seasoning cannot be added, because it wont evenly spread.. |

now it is all mixed without lumps |
keep mixing till it comes together |
remove it to a bowl, allow it to cool down |
once it is easy to handle..Knead it so it forms a soft dough |
take a small portion |
press it like this, |
so your finger impression in the kozhukattai |
do this for the remaining dough |
place this whole thing in a steamer |
cover and steam |
now the kozhukattai is cooked |
remove and serve.. |
