Kuthiraivali Pongal Recipe / Barnyard Millet Pongal Recipe


This is my latest favourite recipe. I love pongal a lot. I make it quite often too. Since hubby and me dont eat rice these days, i used kuthiraivali for making this and it was like super hit. I never missed rice in this. It tasted really yummy

I served this with my all time favourite pumpkin sambar, it was so delicious. You can have it with coconut chutney or tomato chutney as well..

Preparation Time : 5 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Serves : 3 to 4

Ingredients:

Kuthiraivali / Barnyard Millet - 1 cup
Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Water - 4 cup
Ghee - 1 tsp

For Tempering:
Ghee - 2 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 2 tsp
Whole Pepper - 2 tsp
Green Chillies - 2 chopped finely
Ginger - 1 tblspn
Curry leaves - a sprig

Method:

Wash dal and millet really well. Drain it and set aside.

Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add in dal, roast till golden. Add in millet along with water and salt. Pressure cook fo 3 whistle. Simmer for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let them steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and mix well.

Heat ghee in a pan. Add in all the ingredients for tempering. Mix well. 

Add the cooked dal millet and mix well.

Serve with sambar  or chutney..

Wash them well


 Heat ghee in a pressure cooker


Add in moong dal


roast for few mins till nice aroma comes


Add in washed kuthiraivali


add salt


add water


pressure cook


all cooked


Heat ghee in a pan


Add in all the spices


Saute this


Once it turns nice and golden


Add in the cooked dal and kuthiraivali


Mix well


Serve
